Santander still has worst service says savings account expert

17. May, 2011 Categories: Business Bank Account Updates, News by Business Bank Accounts 0 Comments

One savings account expert for Moneywise magazine has recently stated that after a blistering year, Spain-based bank Santander still has the dubious honour of being the one bank in the UK that has the most customer service complaints lodged against it.

Johanna Gornitzki, editor for the money magizine, stated that Moneywise conducted a massive 12,000 respondent survey concerning the personal and business bank account provider.  Ms Gornitzki stated that as bad as the bank’s service has been, there is little hope for improvement.

The Moneywise editor stated that banks have been under fire for their lacklustre service recently, yet high levels of complaints delivered to bank branches and bad press has done little to change their behaviour.  Instead Ms Gornitzki stated that many financial service providers in the UK persist in ignoring customer feedback.

The money magazine polled more than 12,000 of its readers on which UK bank was the most trusted on a variety of subjects such as travel insurance, credit cards, savings accounts, and current accounts.  The results show that UK banking giants were the least trustworthy.

Leading the pack in poor service complaints is once again Santander.  The Spanish bank was crowned the worst provider in the UK by both the Press and consumers alike last year and once again it stands at the most reviled banking provider in all of Britain.

Nearly 40 per cent of comments from the survey in regards to poor service were directed at Santander.  The next two providers only garnered around 11 per cent and 9 per cent of savers’ ire, which industry experts called a massive difference in comparison.

The three most common complaints lodged against Santander were untrained staff, unhelpful call centres, and long queues in branches.  One respondent to the survey stated that visiting a large branch located in Swansea turned out to be both a waste of time and a nightmare due to the abysmally poor service by branch staff.  The respondent, who was considering opening a savings account with the bank, thought better and took their money elsewhere.
