Nationwide includes new guarantee on its ISA savings account

02. Jun, 2011 Categories: Business Bank Account Updates, News by Business Bank Accounts 0 Comments

One personal and business bank account provider in the UK has issued a guarantee that one of its ISA savings accounts will either meet or exceed the rate of interest on its taxable alternative savings account.

Nationwide’s Champion ISA has been guaranteed to be on par with its Champion Saver interest rate starting from next month.  Industry experts believe this new initiative on the part of Nationwide in order to equalise savings and ISA rates was spurred on by consumer groups’ constant disapproval in regards to the rate disparity.

Cash ISA savings pay interest that is tax-fee.  Other savings products deduct 20 per cent in tax from their interest automatically by the financial services provider.

However industry watchdog groups say that banks are pocketing Government-given tax incentives to encourage savings activity by paying lower rates of return on cash ISAs.

Based on an average of the top most high-paying cash ISAs, the core rate of the Champion ISA also includes any relevant bonuses attached to the top five ISAs.

While both the Champion ISAa Champion Saver accounts require notice of 60 days before you can make a withdrawal, both savings products are based out of branch offices only.  However you can make up to one withdrawal without notice every year in order to transfer the account elsewhere or close it.

With its 1.21 per cent bonus rate that is payable until June of 2012, the ISA saver currently pays a total of 2.73 per cent in interest.  However this could change as the five ISAs the Nationwide offering tracks are constantly fluctuating.

With its lower 2.4 per cent rate, the Champion Saver also boasts a bonus that is payable until February of 2012.
